Dear Madeleine,
Thank you very much for your nice letter, I am very glad you wrote so soon. I hardly dared expect it, though I thought very often of you. You must forgive me if I make many mistakes in this letter, because it is rather difficult to write in a foreign language.
We spent our last days in Middelkerke rather quietly. Our grandmother came on Sunday and stayed till we left. We were chatting with your two aunties very often. We played with that Englishman who danced with you at the Confetti Party. He was quite nice. He always came to talk with your aunties. Sunday evening was a cortege with lampions. We went with that Englishman to watch it. Monday evening we left Middelkerke. Rasso was very sick during the whole day. When we arrived at Ostende, Rasso vomited. But I suppose one does not write such things in a letter, please forgive me. Well we were glad to have our seats reserved because the train was full. So we could not sleep very well in the night. There were heaps of Englishmen in the train. Munich is full of them, too. We arrived here safely, only we were starving and dead tired. The weather is very beautiful, warm. We were bathing a lot. I prefer bathing in a lake or river than to swimming in the sea. The water does not hurt so much, and is not salty and bitter if one swallows it. We do a lot of yachting, there is beautiful wind. Today we were staying on the boat for the whole day. Yesterday I was in the opera, seeing Don Juan by Mozart. It was very beautiful indeed. We did not go to any cinemas yet
Our photos are quite well but mine are not yet developed. We will send you copies as soon as we have them. I am very lazy here, don’t read or knit. You know I became heavier by 1 1/2kg in Middelkerke. I hope you are able to read this letter and are not shocked with my untidiness. Once more forgive my mistakes. I will try to write you about every month. But we are all very lazy writing letters; though we love to receive them very often. Write soon.
Yours affectionately
Loll
P.S. The address was o.k. Call me simply Loll. Remember me to your family and tell Mary many things of her affectionate lollipop. My sisters send many kind regards.
