Munich to Pension Ensoleillee, St. Jean-Cap-Ferrat, Alps Maritimes, France

Dear Madeleine!

How astonished I was to get your letter this morning. Yesterday I told my sisters, “I wonder why I don’t get any news of the “Pinkies”. And now to think that you are in France at the Riviera. I am glad you like it. Deidi is going to be married on the 19th. Yesterday I was looking all over Nymphenburg Castle. There are most beautiful rooms. And I do hope the wedding will be nice there. The only mistake is we cannot dance. As it is a reunion de famille, we may not ask any other young men to dance. And we have only got about five cousins and 20 cousins. And heaps of Aunts too. Deidi is going to live at Mandelieu in a villa, Mas St. Louis. She is to spend her honeymoon in Italy. We are busy preparing, especially Mami is worrying about everything. Deidi gets the old wedding gown of Mami, most marvellous lace and a 3m long train. Rasso and the two small cousins are train-bearers. I am sorry you can’t see Deidi anymore. But it will better if you come here after the wedding as we shall have more time to meet you. You should go sight-seeing Nymphenburg, the old Pinokothek too, with most precious and beautiful pictures and heaps of other things in Munich. Baby and I are going to spend a week at Moos with our cousin Therese Preysing. Which way shall you come? Over Lousanne, Lindau? And when? I am eagerly looking forward to see you again after a year. Please write to me when and how long you are staying at Munich.

I just came back from sailing. I was nearly fried, but I sprung into the water and took a good swim. The weather is very fine, sunny and warm. Deidi is driving out with her fiancée every day in his beautiful car. It is quite new, a grey Peugeot with only two places. Ludwig is sailing on the Bodensee at a regatta. I hope he wins, he is quite mad with sailing. Auf Wiedersehn, very soon, I hope, heaps of love.

Loll
