Sarvar to 27 Queen Square, Bath

Dear Madeleine!

Thank you very much for your letter. I spent a week in Austria with Mamis brother and his wife. Not the one you know from Middelkerke. They are so sorry they have no children. I did heaps of chicken farming there. It was great fun. Here in Hungary everybody has chickens, everybody. So chicken is practically the cheapest meat. I am having my summer frocks made too, it is great excitement. We really need them now. It was already very hot. But today it is raining a little. That’s excellent for the fields and woods. I heard that England was so dried out. Muck wrote me all about it. By the way, when are you going to London? Muck wants to go down for the first days of July. Couldn’t you meet her. It would be fun. She has got a Mademoiselle of us there and wants to see London with her. Have you got her address? I seem to be very lazy, but I am doing something the whole time. In the morning I ride, then take a delicious long bath. After that I sleep or write letters and do my Hungarian homework. I take lessons now, together with Baby. But it is a rotten language, Chinese or Zulu must be much easier. It really is a shame, we live here since 15 years and don’t know any Hungarian. I am reading French books. I am afraid I might forget all my French. And when Deidi’s husband comes along, we shan’t be able to talk. He does not know any German. It must be pretty hard for Deidi to speak French all the time. But she is so happy. Mami is going to see her now.

I hope Robert has quite recovered from his pneumonia. It must have been awful for you. I am so sorry you lost your cat. Maybe it was over run by a car or shot while eating birds. I am so sorry I always forget your birthday. Please forgive me. Although we are very late, Baby and I are sending a little present. I hope you like it.

Fondest love

Loll
