Cover from the occupied Channel Island of Guernsey. Due to the shortage of stamps following the German invasion of June/July 1940, the postal authorities allowed bisects to be used as of 27th December 1940. A number of stamps were used for the purpose, although only the King George VI 1937 2d. orange (Mi.201) was authorised. Shown here is the King George VI 1940 2d. Postal Centenary commemorative (Mi.218). Note that the cancellation is that of 1940 with the '0' filed to appear as a '1'. This was due to the lack of available moveable type. Ref: 03.01.1941
